The Nursery

We are joyously anticipating the birth of our first grandchild later this month.  Our daughter, Meagan, and her husband, Andy, are expecting a baby boy, who will probably remain nameless until they meet him face to face.  (Until then, he goes by "Fred.")  Since Meagan and Andy are both teachers, they've waited until Christmas vacation to finish getting everything ready for the baby.

Meagan surveys the nearly finished nursery.

I am so proud of them for their willingness to think outside the box.  You see, they live in a small house with one bedroom, a miniscule office, and two bathrooms.  One of the bathrooms used to be a bedroom, years ago, so after much thought, they decided to turn that second bathroom back into a bedroom.  You can imagine the funny looks they get when they tell people about their plans for a nursery.  They've worked hard, with much help from several family members, and it's nearly done.

The old bathtub, toilet, and wall tiles have been removed, new light fixtures and outlets have been installed, and the walls and ceiling have been painted.  The old built-in vanity has been shortened to add needed floor space, and the cupboard has been painted white.  A new counter top and deep sink, perfect for bathing a baby, are ready to be installed.  (I imagine that other young parents will drool, just thinking about having a sink in the nursery!)

Just a few days ago, Meagan asked if I would help paint a farm mural in the nursery.  I checked the internet for ideas, and bought some paint.  Erin was here to help draw and paint the barn and most of the animals on Saturday, and I finished up today.  It's amazing how a little paint can change a room, making it feel so bright and welcoming for the new baby.
Every farm needs a horse.

The barn was the hardest part.  We used a level to make it just right.

Charlotte is waiting to add the baby's name to her web.
After tomorrow, the nursery should be finished.  We can hardly wait to welcome this new little boy into the world.
