Rain, Rain

Image
Rain, rain, go away,  Come again some other day! All the children want to play. Rain, rain, go away. I've always been a little skittish about singing that song with my preschoolers, because rain can be a scarce commodity here in the Nebraska panhandle. But we sang it anyway this spring, even for our spring program.  And, guess what? It has been a perfect year to sing that song, because it just keeps on raining!  I haven't seen so much rain since we lived in Michigan. I used to laugh to myself when someone repeated that old ditty, "April showers bring May flowers," because it really doesn't rain much here in April, or May. Most years, it would be better to say something like "March snow brings grass to mow!"  But this year, March was a beautiful month, full of promise of the spring to come. This year, March lied! Though cool, April was a reasonable month, with little rain, and no snow, either. And May Day was a perfect day to pull out the crepe

Graduating

Victoria was so excited last August, when school started, because she was a senior at last!  School has been a long, challenging journey for her, filled with many ups and downs.  There were times when we thought she might not be able to finish school in a conventional way.  But, last week, she graduated!  And, on top of that, she did so with maximum credits, which means that she took a full class load, and passed every class during her four years of high school. Victoria worked hard and accomplished much. Now, Victoria is ready for the next step of her life-long journey.  She will be attending West Nebraska Community College in the fall, with plans to transfer to Eastern Wyoming College, twenty-five miles away in Torrington, to complete the course work she needs to become a vet tech. (veterinary technician)  Since her graduation from Gering High School last week, Victoria is one step closer to meeting her goal. Last fall, as Victoria started her final year of high school, I did

Heart Attack

It was not a typical Sunday.  It was the first Sunday in months that I was not scheduled to be on worship team, so I was still home at a time when I am usually already at church, practicing.  I was just about ready to take the kids with me to Sunday School, when Bill came into the bedroom and laid down on the bed. He said he wasn't feeling well.  When I asked what was wrong, he said that his chest and upper back were hurting, and his left hand was tingling.  He thought maybe he had hurt himself during his early morning workout.  He also said that he wasn't having a heart attack.  I probably raised my eyebrows. Bill is in excellent shape, because he works out several times a week, eats healthy foods most of the time, and has lost more than fifty pounds in recent years.  Although Bill's symptoms were classic, they were not severe.  He was not ready to admit that he needed to get to the hospital.  I said a quick prayer for guidance, told Bill to call 911 if his symptoms got
