A Little Covid

Image
Like so many of you, I am tired of hearing about Covid-19. As I look back to 2020 and the intervening years since then, I can't help but think that our government, along with many others throughout the world, may have overreacted, insisting on too many, perhaps unnecessary, restrictions. However, the fact remains that I am currently quarantined at home because, for the first time, I officially have Covid. I would never have known I have Covid except that it morphed into a sinus infection. So, I dutifully made my way to Urgent Care because I knew I would need an antibiotic to get over it. And, of course, I had to have a test to rule out Covid and Influenza A. Except, even though my vaccinations are up-to-date, the test was positive for Covid. My Covid symptoms have been minimal, probably because I’ve been vaccinated: some fatigue, some sneezing, and a headache that won't quit. Initially, I passed off those symptoms as my normal allergy symptoms, aggravated by the windy condition...

Quarantined--Sort Of

Image
Here we are at home, socially isolated to prevent the spread of COVID-19, that new coronavirus that suddenly appeared in China a couple of months ago. Never in my lifetime have I ever experienced this kind of reaction to a virus. It seems as though the whole world is quarantined.  Except for Levi's therapy and an occasional trip to the grocery store, we are staying home most of the time this week, and into the near future. We are not really quarantined, since none of us are sick, but the kids and I are isolating ourselves at home to help prevent the spread of this new, nasty virus. Bill is going to work as usual, with some recently added COVID-19 protocol, in an effort to provided essential TV and internet services to the homebound people who need it now, more than ever.  Yesterday, when I took Levi to the hospital for his appointment, we had to don face masks because I drove to an appointment in Fort Collins last week; since then, at least one health care worker the...

October Ups and Downs

Image
October really flew by this year, but some days, it seemed as though life was just creeping along. Either way, I have been having a hard time keeping up. Bill and I spent a few, fabulous days in New Orleans at the beginning of the month; then I had oral surgery, two-and-a-half hours away from home, in Fort Collins, which has meant three car trips back and forth, so far, and some unexpected, coexisting, health issues. I was just beginning to recover when our 13-year-old cat, Charlie, had to stay at the animal hospital three different times, before we made the hard decision to end his suffering. In the midst of it all, I was excited when my new children's book, Grandma, Whatcha Doing?  was published and became available for purchase on Amazon.com and  BarnesandNoble.com .  All of a sudden, I had to scramble to put together an author webpage, which can be found at  https://grandmajanetk.wordpress.com/ , and set up author pages on Amazon and Goodreads . ...

The Vicks Treatment

Image
I've been feeling a little "under the weather" for more than a week now. It's nothing serious, just some sinus congestion and a few sniffles, but it doesn't take much to set off my asthma. I awoke more than once last night, coughing and laboring to breathe, so I'm taking a precautionary sick day today, in hopes of avoiding another trip to Urgent Care. I slept in this morning, later than I ever stay in bed, before enjoying a leisurely breakfast and a nebulizer treatment. After that, I opted for a hot shower, which often soothes my aching muscles and relieves my congestion. I donned my lounging clothes, as Levi calls them, a long sleeved, red, Henley shirt and star-sprinkled, black, velour pants that are just too warm for me to sleep in at night. Then, I thought of the old home remedy my mom used to apply when I was feeling congested. I rooted around in the bottom cupboard to find something resembling the Vicks she always kept on hand. I didn't have that...
